The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta has announced that Brandon Kahn, a veteran of theater management and stage production, will join the organization as its new managing director, effective August 1. Kahn will partner with artistic directors Christopher Moses and Tinashe Kajese-Bolden to lead the premier producing theater in the Southeast.
Kahn succeeds Mike Schleifer, who held the position for 11 years before departing to become managing director of Lincoln Center Theater.
“Being named the next managing director of the Alliance Theatre is truly a dream come true,” Kahn said in a statement. He expressed his honor and excitement to partner with Moses and Kajese-Bolden, whom he called "two of the most visionary artistic directors working today."
Kahn believes the Alliance is "uniquely positioned to shape the future of the field" due to its rich history as a national leader. He looks forward to collaborating with the staff, board, the Woodruff Arts Center, and the Atlanta community to ensure the theater continues to thrive.
A Deep Background in Production and Management
Kahn brings over two decades of experience in theater leadership, management, and stage production, having played key roles in developing new works that transferred to major stages across the country and abroad.
Alley Theatre (2018–Present): Kahn served as General Manager of the Houston theater, focusing on improving operational systems and workplace environment. He oversaw multiple successful transfer productions, including Born With Teeth (running on the West End this fall) and the multi-city co-production of Cambodian Rock Band.
Williamstown Theatre Festival (Six Seasons): Prior to the Alley, Kahn held roles as Producing Manager and Production Stage Manager. During his tenure, five productions transferred to Broadway, including Martyna Majok’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Cost of Living.
Early Career: He spent 10 years as a freelance stage manager, working on five Broadway shows, six Off-Broadway shows, and numerous regional productions.
Kahn also currently serves as the Board Secretary for the League of Resident Theatres (LORT) and has been an active mentor in the LORT EDI Mentorship Program.
Vision and Community Alignment
Artistic directors Kajese-Bolden and Moses expressed great enthusiasm for the appointment. “He brings not only a depth of professional experience to the job, but a genuine and enthusiastic belief in our particular mission and community,” they stated. They believe Kahn's expertise and "aspirational outlook" are the perfect match for the Alliance as the company continues to grow its impact locally and nationally.
The Alliance Theatre, founded in 1968 and operating with a $25 million budget, reaches over 165,000 patrons annually and is dedicated to representing Atlanta’s diverse community through its values of community, curiosity, collaboration, and excellence.
Kahn will relocate to Atlanta with his wife, Jennifer Kahn, founder of Scenery Bags, and their two sons, Hudson and Judah.
